CEUs and renewal submission must be completed before the certification expiration date (2 years from issuance). Terms state a free 90-day grace period beyond expiration to complete the 20 CEUs; the renewal page states a one-year grace period after expiration during which a late fee applies. Expired certifications may be restored within one year of expiration with 20 CEUs, proof of continuously current CPR/AED, recertification fee and late fee; after one year, re-enrollment/re-examination is required. Early renewal permitted up to one year before expiration, with the new period beginning from the original expiration date.

Renewal steps: complete 20 CEUs, maintain current CPR/AED certification, and submit renewal via the Student Portal (My Account → Renewal); processing takes 3–5 business days. Standard renewal fee $99, may be waived if all 20 CEUs are completed through ISSA. Excess CEUs cannot carry over to the next period. ISSA CEUs are tracked automatically; outside-provider CEUs must be uploaded with a certificate of completion, transcript with grade, or proof of attendance and are subject to review (3–5 business days for approval). An optional 'Certify for Life' option eliminates future renewal fees. Recertification also requires being current on payment schedule and submitting the recertification application.
