Deadline rule
Certification valid 2 years from date of issue; CECs must be earned between issue date and expiration. NETA accepts renewal applications up to 90 days before and up to 180 days after the expiration date; NETA advises submitting two months prior to expiration. Automatic 180-day reinstatement grace period (status is 'expired') with late fees; if grace period lapses, the exam must be retaken.

20 CECs per 2-year cycle, at least 6 of which must come from NETA workshops or NETA home study courses purchased directly from NETA. Excess CECs beyond 20 do not carry over to a future cycle. Submit renewal application online or by mail with copies of Certificates of Completion and fee in one packet; incomplete applications are returned. CECs are only awarded for activities within the exercise professional scope of practice (e.g., no massage therapy, counseling, hypnosis, chiropractic/PT techniques, medically oriented dietary interventions).
