Other prerequisites
No prerequisite stated for SFG I (kettlebell) certification. For SFG II: "You must hold a current SFG I Certification to register to attend the Level II Certification." Candidates must be physically able to perform the required lifts with prescribed kettlebell weights based on gender, age, and bodyweight.

Evidence covers the SFG I and SFG II kettlebell instructor certifications. Age/bodyweight classes (Open, Masters 50-64, Seniors 65+) determine testing weights and snatch test standards rather than acting as eligibility limits. Testing exemptions from strength/technique tests may be granted case-by-case to highly accomplished coaches/athletes with chronic injury and to veteran military, law enforcement, and first responders.

Examination

Format
In-person practical testing over the 3-day certification: technique testing of six foundational skills (swing 10/side, double clean 5, press 5/side, double front squat 5, snatch 5/side, get-up 1/side), demonstration of teaching skills, judgment/safety and professionalism, plus the kettlebell snatch test administered on the last day. SFG II adds a one-arm clean and military press strength test and Level II skills.

Passing score
Snatch test: 100 reps in 5 minutes (50 reps in 3 minutes for Seniors 65+) with the prescribed kettlebell; must also exhibit safe/efficient technique, good judgment, strong spirit, effective teaching skills, and professional conduct. A typical failure rate of 25-30% is cited.

Retake policy
Candidates who fail fewer than 4 test skills may submit any failed skills or the snatch test to their Team Leader within 90 days/3 months following the SFG certification. (SFG II: 90 days for skills/snatch test; six months to retest the strength test with a Master/Senior Instructor or Team Leader.)

Deadline rule
Must be registered for a recertification option prior to your current expiration date (expiration date visible on the instructor profile page). Expired instructors must re-attend a previously held certification or register for a new certification.

Recertification is by retesting/attendance, not continuing-education credits. Options: attend your next StrongFirst Certification; attend a Special Event and apply for onsite recertification (often included at no extra cost, subject to availability); apply to assist at a Certification (no tuition); or complete Online Recertification (eligibility rules apply). Unified Recertification allows renewing multiple modalities (SFG I, SFG II, SFB, SFL) at one event for one price with modality-specific skill/strength/snatch tests. Passing Level I tests at an SFG II Certification renews the Level I certificate for two years; StrongFirst Elite (all four certifications, retested via Elite Unified Recertification) carries a three-year expiration for all four certifications.
