Deadline rule
Certificate valid two years from date of issue; all 10 CECs must be earned between issue date and expiration date. NETA advises submitting the renewal packet two months before expiration. Automatic 180-day reinstatement grace period after expiration (status is 'expired'; late fees apply); if the grace period lapses, the workshop/course must be retaken and the exam passed again.

At least 6 of the 10 CECs must be earned from NETA workshops or home study courses purchased directly from NETA. Renewal requires the application, photocopies of Certificates of Completion for all CECs, a photocopy of an adult CPR/AED card (front and back) from a recognized provider (e.g., AHA, ARC, ASHI, NSC) that included a live hands-on skills evaluation (fully online CPR not accepted; CPR courses award no CECs), and the fee. Excess CECs beyond 10 do not carry over to a future recertification period. Renewal can be completed online or by mail.
