Deadline rule

Certificate valid four calendar years from date of completion, expiring December 31 of the fourth year; recertification period opens November 1 in the year of certificate expiry and the application must be filed on time. Lapsed certificates require retaking the entire Level 1 Program.

Effective January 1, 2026, Level 1 holders must accrue a minimum of 8 CEU hours from any combination of approved USATF courses and submit a log of completed CEU courses in their expiring certificate year. Surplus hours do not roll forward, and only courses completed after the most recent Level 1 issue date count. Current USATF membership and current SafeSport training are required at renewal. USATF Level 2 and Level 3 coaches are exempt from Level 1 recertification. KT Tape for Coaches is explicitly not eligible for Level 1 recertification credit.
