AFAA-CGFI vs NESTA PFT
AFAA Certified Group Fitness Instructor from Athletics and Fitness Association of America and NESTA Certified Personal Fitness Trainer from National Exercise & Sports Trainers Association, side by side: accreditation, eligibility, exam, cost and renewal, each fact from its cited source.
Key differences
- Both are accredited, but by different bodies: AFAA-CGFI by NCCA, PFT by National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
- AFAA-CGFI renews on a 2-year cycle; PFT on a 4-year cycle.
- AFAA-CGFI requires 1.5 continuing-education units per cycle versus 4 for PFT — note the providers use different CEU unit systems, so these figures are not directly comparable.
- The renewal fee differs: $99 for AFAA-CGFI versus $149 for PFT.
