Certificate valid two years from date of issue; the 10 CECs must be earned between the date of issue and the designated expiration date. NETA advises submitting the renewal online or by mail two months prior to expiration. Automatic 180-day reinstatement grace period after expiration (status is 'expired' during grace); if the grace period lapses, the workshop/course must be retaken and the exam passed again.

Specialty certifications (including Nutrition Coach) renew every 2 years with 10 approved CECs, of which at least 6 must be earned through NETA workshops or home study courses purchased directly from NETA. Renewal packet requires the Renewal Application, photocopies of certificates of completion for all CECs, a photocopy (front and back) of adult CPR/AED certification from a recognized provider (e.g., AHA, ARC, ASHI, NSC) that included a live hands-on practical skills evaluation (fully online CPR not accepted), and the renewal fee. CPR/AED courses do not award NETA CECs. CPR/AED is not required to earn the Nutrition Coach specialty but must be held to renew it. Allow 30 days for the new certificate; incomplete applications are returned.
