CPR/AED certification is not required to register or earn the Kettlebell Specialty, but must be held to renew the specialty certificate later. Completion of the 1-day live workshop (in-person or virtual via Zoom) or the on-demand home study course is required before the exam.

Certificate valid 2 years from date of issue; all 10 CECs must be earned between issue date and expiration. NETA advises submitting renewal two months prior to expiration. Automatic 180-day reinstatement grace period (status 'expired') with late fees; after 180 days the workshop/course must be retaken and exam passed.

At least 6 of the 10 CECs must come from NETA workshops or home study courses purchased directly from NETA. Renewal requires application, photocopies of Certificates of Completion for all CECs, proof of adult CPR/AED certification (front and back of card) from a recognized provider (e.g., AHA, ARC, ASHI, NSC) that included a live hands-on skills evaluation (online-only CPR not accepted; CPR courses award no CECs), and the fee. Excess CECs do not carry over to a future cycle. Renewal can be completed online or by mail.

CEU recognition

  • ACE (American Council on Exercise) — accepts ceus from
    NETA automatically accepts ACE-approved CECs; 0.10 ACE CEC = 1.0 NETA CEC. Certificate of Completion required.
  • NASM — accepts ceus from
    NETA automatically accepts NASM-approved CEUs; 0.10 NASM CEU = 1.0 NETA CEC.
  • AFAA — accepts ceus from
    NETA automatically accepts AFAA-approved CEUs; 0.10 AFAA CEU = 1.0 NETA CEC.
  • NETA (non-preapproved coursework / college courses) — petition accepted
    Activities not pre-approved by NETA, ACE, AFAA, or NASM may be petitioned; health/fitness-related college courses with grade C or higher evaluated case-by-case via Petition Application plus $25 petition fee per course.
  • ACE (American Council on Exercise) — approved ceu provider
